Uploading and Managing Image Assets
Image assets are essential for creating visually engaging personalized products. In Customix, you can upload clipart, decorative graphics, and default artwork that appear in your design templates, either as part of the base design or as selectable options for customers.
1. Uploading Images
To upload images:
- Go to the Assets section in your Customix dashboard.
- Select the Images tab.
- Click Add Images to upload files one by one, or click Upload ZIP File to upload an entire folder at once.
hen you upload via ZIP file, the app automatically preserves your folder structure. For example, if files A1 and A2 are inside a folder named "A", they will be uploaded into a folder "A" containing those same two files, keeping your assets organized exactly as they were on your computer.
2. Organizing with Folders
Images are grouped into folders, which makes it easier to find and manage assets later:
- Click Add Folders to create folders for specific themes (e.g. “Dog Breeds,” “Mother’s Day Clipart,” etc.)
- After upload, drag or move images into a category for better organization.

These folders will appear in the template editor when you add image assets. When you add one of these folders to a template, it will display as a selection field, allowing customers to choose from the different options inside that folder.
To add a folder, hover over the image folder in the asset panel, an Add icon (+) will appear. Click it to add the folder to your template as an image swatch.

3. How Images Are Used in Templates
Uploaded images can be applied in various ways:
- As a single image: When you add an individual image to a template, it becomes an image layer. You can enable personalization on this layer so customers can upload their own image to replace it, or keep it as a fixed layer that stays as-is in the design.
- As a folder: When you add an image folder, it becomes a selection field where customers choose from the images inside (as described above).
You'll place and control these images inside the Design screen of your template editor.

4. Managing Image Files
Once images are uploaded, you can organize and customize how they behave inside the editor using folders and display settings.
a. Edit or Rename a Folder
- Click the three-dot menu on any folder and choose Edit to change the name or upload a thumbnail icon.
- You can also choose how the images in this category are displayed to the customer: Thumbnail images (grid view); Dropdown list; Inline buttons

b. Move or Delete Folders
- Use the same three-dot menu to move assets into another folder for better organization.
- You can delete folders only if the assets inside are not being used in any templates.
c. Folder Thumbnails
To edit the thumbnail of a file or folder, click the three-dot (•••) icon, select Edit, and upload your new thumbnail.

All files uploaded to Customix are automatically optimized, trimming whitespace and zooming in on the object. If the automatic optimization fails for any file, select the Optimize thumbnail option from the same menu to run the optimization again.

5. Folder Level Handling (Automatic Option & Condition Mapping)
When uploading assets, Customix automatically processes folders based on their hierarchy levels. If your folder structure is nested, for example:
- Folder Icon contains Black and White
- Folder Black contains black version
- Folder White contains white version

After adding to the template, Customix will automatically generate Option Sets based on folder levels and create conditions to control asset visibility like the screen below:

This helps merchants manage complex asset libraries without manually setting up option logic.
