Photo Upload Customization
Photo Upload Personalization allows your customers to upload their own images. It's perfect for personalized gifts, custom posters, pet portraits, and more. This guide walks you through setting it up in your template.
1. Adding the Image Layer
First, you need to add an image layer to your template. There are two ways to do this, and both work the same way, the only difference is what customers see on first load:
- Add a sample image: directly add an existing image from My Images (as shown in Image 1). This image is displayed as an example when the product page first loads.

- Add an image placeholder: **click **Add → Add image placeholder (as shown in Image 2). This creates an empty layer that shows nothing on first load.

Choose a sample image if you want to give customers a visual reference, or a placeholder if you want the slot to start empty.
2. Enable Personalization
By default, the image layer is just a fixed image. To let customers upload their own photo, scroll down to the Personalization panel and tick the Personalize upload image checkbox.

Once enabled, you can configure the Label, add optional Help text, set a Min image width/height to enforce minimum upload quality, mark it as Required, and toggle Editable to allow customers to adjust the image after uploading.
3. Image Mask
If you want the uploaded photo to appear within a specific shape, use the Mask option. You can either upload a custom mask or select a built-in shape: heart, star, circle, triangle, and more. The customer's photo will then automatically be cropped to that shape.

4. Image color
The Image color setting controls how the photo is rendered. You can choose Full Color, Grayscale, or Single Color, depending on the effect you want for the uploaded image.

5. Image Filter
Under Filters & Effects, you can apply a filter to the uploaded image by clicking Add Effect. Available options include Remove background, Face cutout, Sketch, Cartoonized, and more.

For AI-powered effects and how to set them up, see the dedicated guide: How to integrate and use the Nano Banana AI Filter in Customix
6. Image Mode
The Image mode setting controls how the uploaded photo fits inside the layer frame:
- Fit: scales the image so its longest side fits within the frame, keeping the entire image visible.
- Fill: scales the image to fill the entire frame and centers it, cropping any overflow.
