How to Place a Test Order (Legacy Version)

A test order is the fastest way to confirm your personalized product works from end to end before real customers start buying. After you publish a campaign, placing one test order lets you check three things at once: the personalizer shows correctly on your storefront, the customer's customization is saved on the order, and the print-ready file generates exactly as it should.
This guide walks you through placing a test order on the Legacy version.

How to place a test order

Step 1: Publish your campaign

Open the campaign you want to test and set its Status to Active, then make sure it is published to your Online store under Publishing. A campaign only appears on your storefront once it is Active and published.

Step 2: Open the product on your storefront

From the campaign page, click View to open the product exactly as a customer sees it, or go to the product page in your live store.

Step 3: Personalize the product like a customer

Fill in the personalization the way a real shopper would: type into the text fields, upload a photo, and choose any swatches or options. Click Preview Your Design to check that your entries render correctly on the product preview.

SCREENSHOT NEEDED: the storefront product page with the Customix personalization panel filled in (text entered, font and color chosen) and the live preview showing the design on the product.

Step 4: Add to cart and check out

Click Add to cart, then complete checkout to create the order. In the cart, confirm that every customization value the customer entered is listed under the product.

Step 5: Check the order in Customix

Open Orders in Customix and click your test order. This is where you confirm everything came through:

  • Customizations: click Customizations on the line item to see the exact values the customer entered. Make sure they match what you typed.
  • Edit: Click Edit in case you want to change the customizations
  • Print files: under Print files, click Download on each file (for example Front and Back) and open them. Check that the artwork is sharp, correctly placed, and production-ready.

You do not have to stay in Customix to check an order. The customer's personalization is also attached to the matching line item on the Shopify order itself, so you or your team can review the customization details directly from your Shopify admin.

How it works

Once your test order looks right, the personalizer, the saved customization data, and the print file are all confirmed working, and your campaign is ready for real customers. If the preview or the print file looks off, adjust the template, republish, and place one more test order before going live.
