The Crossword Effect in Customix allows you to transform customer-input text into a crossword-style layout, where each character is displayed inside a styled tile.

This feature is perfect for pillows, posters, and gifts where you want to display names, words, or initials in a fun crossword/grid format.

1. Add a Crossword Element

• Go to Templates → open your template.
• In the left toolbar, click Text.
• Select the Crossword icon (the grid icon).
• A default crossword layout will appear on your canvas.

2. Configure the Crossword Content

After adding a Crossword layer from the Text tab, use the panel on the right to configure how the crossword grid looks and behaves.

• Words — enter the words that make up the crossword, separated by spaces. These are the words placed onto the grid.
• Max item size — sets the maximum size of each letter tile, controlling how large the crossword can scale.
• Tile ratio (W/H) — adjusts the width-to-height ratio of each tile; 100% produces square tiles.
• Tile gap — controls the spacing between tiles, set as a percentage.
• Radius — rounds the corners of each tile, 0% gives sharp square corners, higher values make them more rounded.
• Font size — sets the size of the letters inside the tiles, as a percentage of the tile size.
• Show score — when enabled, displays a score on the crossword.
• Tile background — sets the background style of the box. Choose Color to apply a solid background color, or Pattern to use a patterned background.

3. Enable Personalize Text

When you enable Personalize text, customers can input the words that make up their crossword. You can configure the Label, add optional Help text, set a Max length, and mark it as Required.

A key setting here is Is tag input. When enabled, the input is displayed as a tag field, each word the customer enters becomes a separate tag (as shown in Image 3). This makes it easy for customers to add or remove individual words.

4. Allow Customers to Regenerate Puzzle

When you enable Allow customers to regenerate puzzle, customers can rearrange the crossword layout themselves. Use the Inline content field to set the label for this action (e.g., "Regenerate").

On the product page, customers will see a Regenerate button. Clicking it generates a new arrangement of the same words, letting customers pick the layout they prefer.

5. Personalize Font

Tick the checkbox, select a font folder from your Assets, then configure the Label, Required, Values, Folder, and Edit display type as needed. This lets customers choose the font used for the crossword tiles.

6. Personalize with Background Swatch

Tick the checkbox, select a folder from your Assets, then configure the Label, Required, and display settings. This lets customers change the box background of the crossword.
