Understanding Templates

A Template defines how a product can be personalized, previewed, and configured by customers. Each Template is built on top of a Product Base and consists of three main parts: Design, Preview, and Option Sets.

Main parts of a Template

1. Design

The Design section is where you set up the print-ready content of the product. This includes:

  • Adding design layers (text, images, clipart, uploaded photos)
  • Positioning, resizing, and rotating layers
  • Enabling customization
  • Configuring fonts, colors, and default values

In general, the Design tab directly determines what will appear on the final print file.

2. Preview

The Preview section controls how the customized product is displayed to customers on the storefront. This includes:

  • Uploading preview images (mockups)
  • Mapping print areas to preview images
  • Adjusting layer visibility for different previews
  • Controlling how personalization changes are reflected visually

The Preview tab affects:

  • Customer visual experience before checkout
  • How confident customers feel about their customization

Preview settings** **do not affect the actual print file, only how it is displayed.

3. Option Sets

The Option Sets section defines how customers interact with the customization options. This includes:

  • Creating input options (text fields, dropdowns, image upload, etc.)
  • Controlling option rules, conditions, and dependencies
  • Managing logic between multiple options (e.g. required, optional, conditional)

In short, **Option Sets **control user interaction and logic.
