Asset Thumbnails

Thumbnails are the visual representation of your assets on the storefront frontend. They are what customers see and interact with when making their personalization choices.

In Customix, there are three ways to set up a thumbnail for an asset:

1. Use Original Image (Default)

By default, the original uploaded image is automatically set as the thumbnail.

  • No additional action is required.
  • If you want to replace it with another image, click ⋮ (More options)EditChange under Thumbnail type.

👉 Example: If you upload a dog illustration, it will instantly appear as the thumbnail option on the storefront without any extra setup.

2. Use a Color Thumbnail

You can assign a solid color instead of an image.

  • Go to Assets → Edit the asset.
  • Under Thumbnail type, select Color.
  • Pick the desired color.

3. Generate Thumbnails (Image Files Only)

The Thumbnail Generator feature helps you automatically create cleaner, more consistent thumbnails for all your assets inside Customix. When you click Thumbnail maker, you will now see **two options:**

Thumbnail maker

a. Image Thumbnail (Auto-optimized)

When you choose Image:

  • The app will automatically optimize your original asset.
  • It removes excess white space/empty margins and it will focus on the center subject of the image.
  • Ideal for cliparts, illustrations, and any asset with a clear object.

This helps keep your asset library clean and ensures all files display at a consistent scale.

b. Color Thumbnail (Dominant Color)

When you choose Color:

  • The app will detect the dominant color of that image and set it as the thumbnail.
  • Creates a clean, color-coded overview of your assets.
  • Color thumbnails are especially useful for custom option sets where customers choose a color, such as: hair color, skin tones, so on.

This makes it easier for customers to visually select the correct color option in your product customizer.

Notes

  • Original image thumbnails are the default, you only need to edit if you want to change them.
  • Thumbnails directly affect what customers see on the frontend option selector after you sync campaigns.
  • Generate color thumbnails works for image files only.
