# Setting Up Print Areas

A **print area** is a printable surface on your product: one for each side you want to personalize and print, such as the front, the back, or a sleeve. Each print area holds its own personalization options and produces its own print-ready file when an order comes in, so setting them up correctly is what makes a multi-side personalized product possible.

# How to add a print area
### Step 1: Open the option set and find the Options panel
Open the option set for your product. The print areas live in the **Options** panel on the left of the editor. Any print area already on the product shows up as a row labeled **Print area**, and the **Add option** and **Print area** buttons sit at the bottom of the panel.

### Step 2: Add a print area
Click **Print area** at the bottom of the Options panel. The **Print area settings** dialog opens. Fill in:
* **Name**: the side this print area covers, for example Front, Back, or Left sleeve. This name is how you tell your print areas apart in the panel and on the order's print files.
* **Width** and **Height**: the size of the print file this side will generate.
* **Unit**: the unit for the width and height, **px** by default.
* **PPI**: the print resolution. Keep it at **300**, the standard for print-quality output.

Click **Create** to add the print area.

### Step 3: Size the print area to match your product
The **Width** and **Height** define the exact size of the print file generated for this side, so set them to the real print dimensions of your product rather than leaving the defaults. A print area that is too small or the wrong shape will not fill your product's print space correctly.

To adjust these later, click **Edit** on the print area's row. The edit panel shows the same **Name**, **Width**, **Height**, and **DPI** settings, and the canvas in the middle switches to show that print area's own flat print surface so you can see exactly what will be printed.

### Step 4: Add personalization options to the print area
A print area starts empty. Add the personalization your customer will fill in: with the print area selected, click **Add option** and choose an option type (for example **Text** or **Upload photo**). Options you add belong to that print area and are printed on that side only.

Drag each option on the canvas to position it where it should sit within the print area.

### Step 5: Add a print area for every side you want to personalize
Repeat Step 2 for each additional side, for example a Back, a Left sleeve, and a Right sleeve. Each print area is independent: it has its own options, its own size, and its own print file. This is how one product ends up personalizable on several sides at once.

### Step 6: Edit, duplicate, lock, or delete a print area
Each print area row has its own set of controls:

* **Edit**: reopen the Name, Width, Height, and DPI settings and the area's options.
* **Duplicate**: copy the print area, handy when a new side needs the same size and options as an existing one.
* **Lock**: prevent the print area from being moved or changed by accident while you work on others.
* **Delete**: remove the print area and everything in it.

# How it works
Once your print areas are set up, each one generates its own print-ready file for every personalized order (a front file, a back file, and so on), so your production or fulfillment step gets a separate, correctly sized file per side.
